Gorodok Chekistov

Russia, Ekaterinburg
gorodok-470x300

The band was named in honour of a constructivist block in the center of Ekaterinburg, a former Utopian commune for the staff of All-Russian Extraordinary Commission and People’s Commissariat of Internal Affairs. “Gorodok Chekistov” play hit, laconical and tenacious post-punk in Russian about mechanicalness and futility of Russian provincial life. Short, but capacious key tunes, dry, almost mechanical bit, laconical sounds of guitar strings – all their songs are intentionally organized in the same way, and each one of them has got a “hook” which clings strongly. This music is a strange mix of absolute underground groove and obvious limpness, and, may be this is the reason why it impresses so much. “Gorodok Chekistov” are really able to find poetry and music in everyday routine and grey faces and get it across to an audience.
